AccelerateAB VIP Reception Features UN Women National Committee UK Chair Emeritus

Laura Haynes, the UK Chair Emeritus for UN Women, will give the keynote to The A100, sponsors and the Roundtables startups on April 15

Calgary, Canada – AccelerateAB, Alberta’s flagship technology conference powered by The A100, today announced that Laura Haynes, Chair Emeritus, UN Women National Committee UK, will be the keynote speaker at AccelerateAB’s VIP Reception following the Women in Tech Summit and the Startup Advising Sessions on Monday, April 15, 2019, sponsored by Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP.

National Committees for UN Women are independent non-governmental organizations that support the mission of UN Women through their public awareness initiatives about global women’s issues and fundraising efforts to support UN Women programs worldwide.

“The programs operated and supported by UN Women are having a tremendous impact by enhancing awareness and understanding of the issues affecting women and girls worldwide” says Cynthia van Sundert, Executive Director of The A100. “In addition to her work with UN Women, Laura has spent 25 years in private practice helping global organizations embrace change and enhance culture. We are honoured to have Laura Haynes join AccelerateAB to share a glimpse of her ongoing and inspiring work around the globe.”

Among its main priorities, the UN Women National Committee UK raises money and awareness for key UN Women programs through the fund for Economic Empowerment and Equality. The mandate for this fund is to invest in projects focused on micro-financing, training and education as well as on small business support for women. The organization is also actively involved in the HeforShe campaign, which engages men and boys — as well as women and girls — in gender equality.

On March 18, 2019, van Sundert and A100 member, Alice Reimer, were recognized as Alberta SHEInnovators by SHEInnovates, another UN Women strategy to develop the innovation market to work better for women and to accelerate gender equality.

Tickets for the AccelerateAB Conference are on sale now. For more information about The A100 please visit www.thea100.org.
