Alberta’s World-Class Data and Analytics Experts Take Centre Stage at AccelerateAB

AccelerateAB 2019’s Speaker Lineup to Showcase Data’s Extensive Reach Across Industries

Calgary, Canada – AccelerateAB, Alberta’s flagship technology conference, is pleased to announce the 2019 program focused on Data: Alberta’s New Energy. On April 15 – 16, 2019, at the TELUS Convention Centre in Calgary, world-class data and analytics experts from a variety of industries will share their views and experiences on the impact of data.

“With the recent announcement of a $100M investment to help grow artificial intelligence-focused companies in Alberta, the theme of this year’s AccelerateAB conference is a timely showcase for the vast depth of data — particularly AI — expertise in the province,” says Cynthia van Sundert, Executive Director of The A100, the organization that powers AccelerateAB.

This year’s opening keynote speaker is an industry authority based right here in Alberta: Timothy Caulfield. Caulfield is best known for his data-driven work on the ethical impact of medical research and public influence. He is a Professor in the Faculty of Law and the School of Public Health, and Research Director of the Health Law Institute at the University of Alberta, and Canada Research Chair in Health Law and Policy.

The closing keynote will be delivered by Pavel Abdur-Rahman, Partner and Head of Data Science at IBM. Abdur-Rahman leads IBM’s AI & Advanced Analytics Consulting Practice in Canada. His keynote, entitled “When Watson Meets ‘Q’,” will cover the global mainstream adoption of Watson industry solutions and IBM Q, the world’s first commercial quantum system now starting to break out of IBM’s R&D labs.

In addition to the comprehensive programming at AccelerateAB, this year’s event features a new component: AccelerateAB’s Women in Tech Summit. Taking place on Monday, April 15, 2019, the Women in Tech Summit is a deep dive into the challenges faced by women in the sector, as well as the successes of Alberta’s outstanding female entrepreneurs. The outstanding lineup of presenters at AccelerateAB Women in Tech includes keynote speaker Carol Leaman, President & CEO of Axonify, and Andrea Stairs, General Manager of eBay Canada & Latin America.

AccelerateAB’s 2019 panels, including the ever popular ‘Eff-Ups’ panel, will feature many more experts – local, national, and global – who will discuss how they are using data and how data is impacting their work. The titles of the panels are:
