On October 11, 2023, Platform Calgary was recognized with the Ecosystem Supporter of the Year Award as part of the 2023 Start Alberta Tech Awards. The Ecosystem Supporter of the Year is awarded to an organization known for its dedication to helping start-ups, scale-ups, and entrepreneurs grow in Alberta.
Platform Calgary is focused on making Calgary the best place to start and grow a tech company. As the hub for Calgary’s tech community, Platform Calgary brings together the resources of Calgary’s tech ecosystem to help startups launch and grow.
“In 2022, we worked with over 1,200 founders and 120 partner organizations. Our goal is to make Calgary the best place in the world to start and grow a tech company, regardless of the stage that tech company is at,” explains Bilal Rasool, Director, Founder Success.
Platform Calgary offers targeted programs designed to help founders – from aspiring to experienced – ideate, launch and scale their tech-enabled business faster. Regular programming includes Tech Talent Tuesdays, Startup 101 and Platform Incubator. Its programs are all low or no-cost and merit-based. Platform Calgary also offers memberships for founders to get exclusive perks including opportunities to connect with investors and mentors as well as help finding tech talent.
Opened in June 2022, the Platform Innovation Centre is the physical hub of Calgary’s innovation community, a single point of access to resources, support, programming and events. It features 50,000 square feet of gathering, meeting and working spaces and classroom space for startups, innovators and entrepreneurs.
“Winning the Ecosystem Supporter of the Year Award is really about celebrating community. Our team has an immense amount of gratitude for this community that we serve. It helps us get up in the morning and it makes the work that we do so special, we wouldn’t be doing this if it weren’t for the community that surrounds us,” said Vanessa Gagnon, Director, Community. “To receive this award is really a giant high five to Calgary’s ecosystem because we’re all doing this together, creating momentum and opportunity for years to come.”
