On November 20, 2024, Verano.ai was recognized with the A100 One to Watch Award as part of the 2024 Start Alberta Tech Awards. The A100 One to Watch is awarded to one of Alberta’s early-stage companies that is “most likely to succeed,” as nominated by the Alberta tech community and chosen by A100 Charter Members.
Founded in Calgary by Clay Swerdelian and Hugo Kiqumoto, Verano.ai is an AI-powered compliance platform that helps companies in heavily regulated industries like energy and finance stay on top of their regulatory requirements. Their solution automatically monitors changing regulations and helps companies assess their compliance status, saving significant time and resources.
“Alberta, and Calgary in particular, is a hot spot for technology now. We’re seeing that the tech ecosystem in Calgary has really blossomed and grown in a big way,” Clay explains. “Winning the A100 One to Watch award means that people are noticing what we’re doing. We’ve done a very good job in the last 12 to 14 months, trying to be anywhere and everywhere we can. We’re on a pretty quick trajectory.”
Verano.ai’s technology easily integrates with existing compliance management systems like ServiceNow, IBM and SAP. It uses proprietary generative AI to handle time-consuming compliance tasks, including monitoring, mapping and assessing their regulatory requirements, freeing up teams to focus on strategic work.
Building on their early success, Verano.ai recently partnered with SCCG Management to expand into the gaming industry and completed the CDL-Rockies accelerator program, demonstrating a strong growth trajectory in the regulatory technology space.
But there’s even more on the horizon for Verano.ai. Clay says, “What I’d like to say is keep watching us. We’ve got some interesting things in the works, some pretty cool projects on the go, some interesting partnerships that’ll be announced in the next two or three months.
“I’m just fortunate that I get to work with four really awesome co-founders that I’ve worked with before. I’m pretty excited about where we’re going to take this thing. And I’m really excited about the people we’re attracting to the firm as we continue to hire and grow.”
