On November 20, 2024, ClearSky Global was recognized with the Deal of the Year Award as part of the 2024 Start Alberta Tech Awards. The Deal of the Year is awarded to the tech company that has raised the largest publicly announced capital in its most recent fundraising round.
ClearSky Global is a Calgary-based company with a focus on discovering and commercializing low carbon alternative fuels. In June 2024, they raised $168M USD in early-stage funding to commercialize their first three production facilities for technology that converts natural gas to high-energy, low-carbon aviation and transportation fuel.

Founded in 2022, ClearSky Global’s focus is on sustainable fuels that are economically competitive with existing solutions – but that also improve energy yield and reduce harmful emissions. They work with industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators to produce and distribute low-carbon alternative fuel (LCAF) and fuel additives that improve combustion and reduce harmful particulates.
While the company’s reach is global, it has strong ties to Alberta. “We’re a very proud Alberta company. Our founders are all from Alberta,” explains Clark Grue, the President and COO. “Alberta is a very special place when it comes to commercializing modern energy solutions. When we looked around the world, there’s really no better jurisdiction than Alberta anywhere.”
Clark adds, “It’s really humbling to get an award. This is the capstone of three and a half years of hard work that we’ve been in for some time now, but really it’s just the starting point for us, so it’s a very nice milestone to start our journey ahead for the next 15 years.”
ClearSky is setting its sights on building a world-class organization as a viable, modern energy company. Timothy adds, “That’s quite the challenge, but something we’re looking forward to continue to work on.”
