Calgary and Edmonton Named Among North America’s Fastest-Growing Tech Ecosystems
ALBERTA, May 28, 2026 – Alberta’s innovation economy continues to earn global recognition, with both Calgary and Edmonton earning strong rankings in Dealroom’s 2026 Global Tech Ecosystem Index. The report assessed 325 cities across 77 countries on investment, innovation, talent, and outcome. Both cities earned rankings in the Rising Stars category, which recognizes the fastest-growing tech ecosystems globally.
Calgary earns:
- #9 in North America in the Rising Stars category
- #107 globally in Rising Stars out of 325 cities
- Top sector strengths: Energy #29, Fintech #60, Robotics #79 globally
Edmonton earns:
- #18 in North America in the Rising Stars category
- #130 globally in Rising Stars out of 325 cities
- Top sector strengths: AI #77, Gaming #94, Space #100 globally
These rankings reflect the province’s continued growth trajectory in the innovation sector, powered in part by data from Start Alberta, Alberta’s innovation platform and a proud contributor to the Dealroom global database of innovation ecosystems.
